On a recent trip to visit my parents in St. George, I had the chance to visit with Dad and talk about horses, one of our favorite subjects. Since I was a kid, I’ve loved riding, later learned to rope, competed for several years. In fact, Dad and I used to team rope together and actually placed at several rodeos back in the day. These are precious memories, for sure.

I’ve always loved learning from Dad, especially about horses, and he is always so willing to share. If you’ve noticed my business card, you’ll see an image of a charcoal drawing of a beautiful black horse. His name is Homestyle, and he belonged to Dad and they were friends for a long time. My dad raised some of the finest horses in North America and that was, in large part, due to this beautiful animal, Homestyle. It seems kind of funny to say, but they were truly good friends and looked out for each other. I could tell you stories Dad shared with me about their friendship but, for now, I just want to tell you that they were heroes to each other.

So, it is about heroes that I would like to share a thought with you. You may think you know what’s coming, and maybe you do. However, just hear (or, read) me out. As much as I’d love to know who your heroes are, and why, what I would really like to know is who you would like to be a hero to.

For me, the answer is easy, on the surface. Obviously, I want to be a hero to my kids, as Dad is such a big hero to me. Still, on another level, I want to do so much more to be a hero to others.  My friends, my extended family, even my parents, who are such heroes to me. Also, people in my business.
There is a book called “Who Do You Want to Be a Hero to,” by Dan Sullivan. This letter is probably a bit premature, because I haven’t actually read the book yet (but I have ordered it). However, it comes with such high marks referred to me by a friend of mine who is also an author, I wanted to plant the seed with you now. Then, maybe we can talk about it at some point in the near future, and compare notes.

On a separate note, please rest assured that anybody you ever introduce me to, who may need my help in real estate or otherwise, I will  always do my very best to make sure that you look like a hero to them!

Till next time,
